Cammenga S.W.A.T Black Version Tritium Lensatic Compass Review

When it comes to an army compass there is only one real one but over the years there has been a great deal of imitations and copies of this tried and true compass made by Cammenga. Cammenga is the manufacture of the true army compass which comes in 3 versions one is the Lensatic Compass which is a model without Tritium

and the other two are with Tritium and they are the Official U.S Military Tritium and the S.W.A.T black version like the one in this review. Now first question I have been asked is what is TRITIUM well simply put it's a radioactive isotope which admits a green glow for up to 25 years.

Cammenga S.W.A.T Black Version Tritium Lensatic Compass ReviewWhy this is better than other compasses is because unlike phosphorescent it doesn't need to be charged to work phosphorescent needs to be charged by either the sun or a form of light like a flashlight. And even when it's charged it will only last around 2 hours but Tritium glows forever and doesn't need any batteries or any light to work and when you think about it most people store there compass in a pouch or pocket till it's time to be used and phosphorescent will end up not working when you need it because it hasn't had time to charge.

Cammenga S.W.A.T Black Version Tritium Lensatic Compass ReviewThe compass comes with a pouch which is nothing spectacular a lanyard and the compass truly the only thing you really want are the compass and the manual which will show you how to use this compass. You have Luminouent sights a graduated straight edge, front and rear sights, magnifying lens, rotatable bezel, along with west and east indicators which are light up by Tritium. On the front part of the compass which acts as the cover as well there is a sighting wire along with two tritium sighting dots.

When you are using the compass in the dark the sight indicators are a must especially when you're using a black compass like this one. Just under the index line there is another tritium indicator which will glow allowing you to see your bearing even in total darkness.

Cammenga S.W.A.T Black Version Tritium Lensatic Compass ReviewOne thing that I really like about this compass is it's made of very strong Aluminum which when folded closed protects both the lens and the compass from damage which is a must ensuring that it will stay safe from damage.

The two compasses are nearly identical except for the Tritium indicators on this compass. The cheaper model has these replaced with phosphorescent paint. I have found Cammenga Cammenga S.W.A.T Black Version Tritium Lensatic Compass Reviewcompasses to be one of the best I have ever used. And let's face it they have been around for such a long time and been copied by so many other companies that it shows I am not the only one who thinks they are one of the best!
