Gerber Applegate & Fairbairn Combat Folder Knife Green Handle Review

Gerber Applegate & Fairbairn Combat Folder Knife Green Handle ReviewThe Applegate folder from Gerber is the folding version of the very poplar fighting knife by Broker and Applegate and Fairbairn. The origins of this knife go back all the ways to WW2 where Applegate and Skyes produced what is still considered one of the best fight knives around.

But never has there been a folder of this knife until Gerber and Colonel Rex Applegate, Bill Harsey and Butch Vallotin teamed up to bring you a folding option for their very poplar fighting knife.

Gerber Applegate & Fairbairn Combat Folder Knife Green Handle ReviewGerber Applegate & Fairbairn Combat Folder Knife Green Handle ReviewThese knives are made from stainless steel with a double bevel blade or stiletto blade but one thing I like to see when it comes to double bevels is that the companies who make them do what Gerber has done they left the back side unsharpened giving you the option to sharpen it or not. The handle of this knife is made from a high quality impact glass-filled nylon which is extremely strong and light weight making it ideal for knife handles as well as full stainless steel liners adding to the strength. The thing that caught me off guard was the size of the knives overall its 10 inches and is the largest folder I have used.

Gerber Applegate & Fairbairn Combat Folder Knife Green Handle ReviewThe blade is 5.6 inches which is much closed to the fix bladed model so you get a folding knife with the size and feel of a full size fixed blade fighting knife. The handle of this knives just the way I like handles the mirror style were both sides of the knife are identical this is very impotent when it comes to a fighting knife for grip having a handle that feels the same in both hands makes this knife a really joy to use.

Gerber Applegate & Fairbairn Combat Folder Knife Green Handle ReviewOne thing I would like to point out is because the handle is so big when held in the hand it sticks out both sides by one inch giving you not just a combat knife but a nonlethal option as an impact weapon as well. The blade of the combat folder is half serrated not a fan of serrations but on this knife they are quite good and don't get caught on things your cutting.

Gerber Applegate & Fairbairn Combat Folder Knife Green Handle ReviewThe lock on this knives is a liner lock but it has something I have not seen on a knife and that's a lock for the lock there is a small rod that you push into place that locks the liner lock in place and will not allow it to be folded until you want it too which is nice when using the knife with both sides sharpened and you cutting both ways with the blade it's just nice to have that added insurance that it's not going to come undone and cut you!

One thing I feel the need to point out is this is not a knife that is made for prying or really extreme cutting the ideal situation for this knife is as a utility knife and as a fighting knife if you feel the need to have a blade that can do all your everyday cutting but can be used to defend yourself like in a law enforcement or military field this is definitely the blade for you!

Gerber Applegate & Fairbairn Combat Folder Knife Green Handle ReviewLastly I want to point out the sheath that comes with the combat folder this is one of my favorite kinds of sheaths and is the way I feel every company should make sheaths. The sheath has a MOLLE attachment which means you can attach this sheath to just about anything from packs, bags, cases and even your belt giving you a ton of options for mounting.
